In the language A: language and literature course students will learn about the complex and dynamic nature of language and explore both its practical and aesthetic dimensions. They will explore the crucial role language plays in communication, reflecting experience and shaping the world. Students will also learn about their own roles as producers of language and develop their productive skills. Throughout the course, students will explore the various ways in which language choices, text types, literary forms and contextual elements all effect meaning. Through close analysis of various text types and literary forms, students will consider their own interpretations, as well as the critical perspectives of others, to explore how such positions are shaped by cultural belief systems and to negotiate meanings for texts. Students will engage in activities that involve them in the process of production and help shape their critical awareness of how texts and their associated visual and audio elements work together to influence the audience/reader and how audiences/readers open up the possibilities of texts. With its focus on a wide variety of communicative acts, the course is meant to develop sensitivity to the foundational nature, and pervasive influence, of language in the world at large. My name is Sara El Drainy, and I have been working in the field of education for 18 years. I have a BA in Arts & Education and earned my Master’s degree in International Education in 2012. I became a certified IBDP English Language & Literature teacher in 2019 and an IB examiner in 2021. My mission is to support students in developing the necessary skills needed to improve their performance in the different assessments. I believe that providing constant feedback is essential for their growth. Feedback helps students understand what they are doing well and where they can improve. I aim to boost their confidence and performance by guiding them through their learning process. Ultimately my goal is to support each student in reaching their full potential. Students and parents play crucial roles in this educational journey. Students are responsible for their learning attending classes completing assignments and actively participating in discussions. They should also seek help when needed and set personal goals to stay motivated. On the other hand, parents support their children by encouraging good study habits providing a suitable learning environment and staying involved in their education. Together we can create a strong foundation for academic success and personal growth
